Graphic Design Process
Graphic design should communicate ideas that inspire, inform, and captivate, not be just a pretty picture. With over 20 years’ experience, I know that following a design process leads to better designs, giving you the best results. Whether it’s creating a memorable logo or a marketing brochure, here are the 5 essential steps of my graphic design process:
1. Consultation and Design Brief
We meet in-person, over the phone, or on a video call to ensure working together is a good fit for us both. I use this time to gather information about you and your project so I fully understand your business’ mission, vision, and goals. After this meeting, I will send a contract and design estimate.
2. Research and Discovery
Next, I do a deep dive into researching your industry and competitors. I look into relevant market research and trends for your industry to get an idea of what will set your unique business apart from the competition.
3. Brainstorm and Concepts
Using the information gathered from our meeting and my research, I sketch several ideas on paper, then select 3-5 of the strongest concepts for further development using graphic design software.
4. Presentation
We meet, either in-person or virtually, to go over each concept and the reasons I created them for you. If there are edits to be made, I work through them until you are happy with your design.
5. Final Delivery
With final approval from you, the design is complete! It’s time for me to create and provide you all the necessary source files for print, web, and electronic usage. You get to enjoy your wonderful new design, and I get to enjoy the satisfaction of helping yet another happy client.
